Batesville set for COMP Cams Topless 100

By Ben Shelton (Batesville, AR) -- This weekend the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) are set to hook horns in the 27th annual COMP Cams Topless 100 presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions.

The annual crown jewel at Mooney Starr’s Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas) spans this Thursday-Saturday, August 15-17 and boasts three great nights of action.

In 2018 the event was reformatted to include a $5,000-to-win program on both Thursday and Friday night with a $40,000-to-win finale on Saturday. Unfortunately, Mother Nature intervened and forced the entire weekend to be canceled. As a result, the “new-look” COMP Cams Topless 100 makes its debut this weekend.

“The COMP Cams Topless 100 is the signature event on our schedule each year,” CCSDS CEO Chris Sullivan said. “Not only is it located in the center of our series’ area, but it’s also a crown jewel that has a storied history. Equally as good is the fact that our title sponsor COMP Cams is located just a few hours away, so a lot of their great employees get to come over and enjoy the event. This is a definitive must-see weekend of racing for this part of the country.”

Rolling into the weekend, Tony Jackson Jr. is the current Midwest Sheet Metal Marked Man atop the CCSDS standings. Kyle Beard, Timothy Culp, Brian Rickman, B.J. Robinson, Hunter Rasdon, Morgan Bagley, Scott Crigler, Charlie Cole and David Payne complete the current Top 10 in the standings.

Crigler continues to hold a dominant lead in the Midwest Sheet Metal Rookie of the Year standings over Charlie Cole and Chad Mallett.

The CCSDS contingent will face a formidable challenge this weekend as they go head-to-head with the LOLMDS competitors. Jonathan Davenport currently leads the series standings with a commanding lead as he pursues his third-series title. Josh Richards, Tim McCreadie, Tyler Erb, Jimmy Owens, Earl Pearson Jr., Devin Moran, Hudson O’Neal, Shanon Buckingham, Kyle Bronson, Stormy Scott and Billy Moyer Jr. round out the current standings.

In 2019, the COMP Cams Topless 100 will feature a complete program of Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and a $5,000-to-win main event on Thursday and Friday nights. Drivers will earn points in each of the two preliminary nights that will determine the lineups for Saturday night's finale. The IMCA Modifieds will also compete in a full program on Thursday and Friday nights, chasing a $1,000 top prize.

Saturday's festivities will kick off with a driver autograph session at 6:30pm. Hot laps will begin at 8:00pm, followed by consolation events for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The 100-lap, $40,000-to-win COMP Cams Topless 100 will cap off the weekend action. The IMCA Modifieds will once again compete in a full program on Saturday night - highlighted by a $1,000 payday.

With 2018’s event falling victim to rain, Scott Bloomquist is the last COMP Cams Topless 100 winner. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer raced to the 2017 victory to become the first five-time winner of the coveted event.
